Julia Schwarzbach is a Salzburg based dancer and choreographer.

She studied contemporary dance at SEAD Salzburg and holds a Master in Performance and Creative Research from Roehampton University London. First engagements with choreographers Sasha Waltz, Gill Clark, Rosalind Crisp, Mia Lawrence, Ted Stoffer, Zoe Knights, David Hernandez and LaborGras mainly in Berlin, London, Zürich and Salzburg. She performed in various projects with Claudia Heu/cabula 6, Begüm Erciyas, Barbara Bess, Markus Gerber, Peter Stamer and Chris Standfest, and Ivana Müller. For Toihaus Theater Salzburg she develops, performs and tours pieces for very young audiences all around the globe.

Since 2011 Julia is a member of tanz_house, the Salzburg based platform for choreography. In 2014  she initiated the research and performance group under construction. On invitation by tanzbuero Salzburg and in the frame of the TURBO-Research Residency at Impulstanz Wien she conducted the research project “Half a Whole” together with performer und DJ Nic Lloyd.

Her research is based on improvisation and somatic practices and deals with questions around embodiment, notions of nature, architecture, collectivity and participation. Her works played at venues like the Barbican London, BAC London, Matadero Madrid, Traverse Theatre Edinburgh, Sommerszene Salzburg, Internationale Architekturtage, SUPERSTADT Linz, ARGEkultur Salzburg a.o.

Julia is selected artist for the apap network - Advancing Performing Arts Project 2016-2020.
