Tomaž Simatović (Slovenia/Austria) is a choreographer, performance artist, and improviser. He graduated in dance performance at SEAD, and gained his MA degree in choreography at ArtEZ Arnhem. He visited I.CI-CCN Montpellier twice with research scholarship, and participation at the e.x.er.ce MA program. Prior his dance and choreographic studies he studied electrical engineering. As dancer Tomaž performed with editta braun company, Susan Quinn, Andreja Podrzavnik, Hubert Lepka, Erik Kaiel, Uwe Bertram, and Georg Blaschke. Since 2012 Tomaž collaborates with Mirjam Klebel and composer Matej Bonin. In his autonomous yet collaborative performance practice Tomaž has been developing performative, experimental and interdisciplinary works. His practice has been presented in Europe, USA and Eastern Asia, in form of performances, lectures, workshops, and writing. Tomaž has taught dance and set performances at diverse dance academies, festivals, and other programs for professional dance training (Falmouth University Performance Centre, University of New Mexico Albuquerque, SEAD, Academy of Dance Ljubljana, Tanzlabor_21 Frankfurt, Normal University of China, and Dance Kiosk Hamburg, amongst others). Tomaž has as well co-initiated, and developed annual summer dance workshops and festivals (Dance Campus Izola, MomenTTum Dance Festival) and co-curated tanz_house festival 2014 (Out of Nothing). In Salzburg Tomaž makes work with regular support from Salzburg Stadt and Salzburg Land Kulturfonds, and teaches dance practice at the Mozarteum Universität/Carl-Orff-Institut.
